Bookkeeping, Financial Statements & Accounting Software for Ghanaian SMEs
Course Overview
This programme covers practical bookkeeping and accounting for small and medium businesses in Ghana. Students learn the accounting cycle from journal entries through to financial statements, applied to real Ghanaian business scenarios including VAT, NHIL, GETFund, and GRA compliance.
Software training covers Zoho Books and Microsoft Excel for accounting, giving students practical tools they can use immediately in a business context.
Learning Outcomes
- Apply the accounting equation and double-entry bookkeeping principles
- Record journal entries, post to ledgers, and prepare a trial balance
- Prepare an income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement
- Set up a chart of accounts and manage invoices and bills in Zoho Books
- Calculate and record VAT, NHIL, and GETFund for Ghanaian compliance
- Reconcile a bank statement and manage petty cash
- Use Excel for financial analysis: profit margins, break-even, cash flow forecasting

Prerequisites
- Basic numeracy and ability to use a computer
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel is helpful but not required
- No prior accounting experience required
